Sister Schools of San Diego Hosts Welcome Dinner for Afghan Teachers

According to Bashir Ghazialam, Director of Middle East programs for SSSD, “This visit is an exciting opportunity for both the Afghan teachers and San Diego community members to learn about one another’s culture and develop lasting relationships. The teachers will have access to invaluable resources for professional development, and San Diegans will be able to not only learn about the fascinating culture of Afghanistan but also to learn how they may aid its reconstruction.”  During their time here, the teachers will stay with American host families, explore landmarks and museums, and experience true San Diego culture.  Two of our Afghan guests are university professors and two are high school teachers, one of whom is from Hashim Barat, the Sister School of Preuss School at USD.  Their visit is made possible through a grant to Friendship Through Education (www.friendshipthrougheducation.org) from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Elementary and Secondary School Education.
