Hashim Barat School (girls, K-12), Mazar, Afghanistan

About the School:

The Hashim Barat School is one of the few girls schools in Mazar and Northern Afghanistan. During the Taliban regime, this school was the first school closed and was completely banned.  Most of the building materials from the school have been abolished.  

The schools is currently in use, but with poor and limited facilities.  UNICEF agreed to rehabilitate the old facilities and IOM/ATI agreed to build 12 new classrooms to meet the demand of the overwhelming number of girls who now wish to return to the school.  The rehabilitation of this school demonstrates the involvement of the new administration of Afghanistan and their progress towards peace.  

Hashim Barat School currently houses 3104 students and 90 teachers.
